Apart from theory examination, the Indira Gandhi National Open University also conducts the entrance test for various professional programmes as well. The various entrance examinations conducted by the university are OPENMAT, B.Ed., M.Ed., B.Sc. Nursing (OPENNET), etc. to shortlist students for admission in various programmes.

Later the university declares the result for these entrance examinations as well. The OPENMAT entrance test is conducted by the university to select students for admission in its various management programmes such as MBA, MBA (B&F), PGDBM, etc. It is conducted twice in a year i.e. in the month of February and August.

Ignou OPENNET test is conducted by the university to select students for admission to B.Sc. Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing programme.
